Catalina Bound!

Super early day heading to Catalina Island to shoot some promo footage for Ocean week. First had to get to the helicopter launch pad at 7AM but it was so worth getting up early just to see the gorgeous sunrise over the Queen Mary ship in Long beach harbor.

I think I have only been in a helicopter once before and that was when I was a youngster with my family over the Grand Canyon, I don't even really remember it. So when I found out this was my ride to work I was pretty stoked on The whole situation as you can see in my face in the below photograph.

One of the best parts about my job is I always get to meet new and interesting people, some nicer than others. This time I met a wonderful couple, Philippe and Ashlan Cousteau. Philippe is an explorer and environmental advocate and Ashaln is  an entertainment journalist.

Now you may be thinking Cousteau.... Where do I know that name? Or maybe just me.... Anyhow I came to find out that yes indeed this is the grandson of the famous ocean explorer Jaque Cousteau. Guys, I thought that man was a myth.... Like a character from a book series or like when that dog "Wishbone"  would dress up In Outfits and act out stories I thought he was one of them. Nope! Real person! That may make me sound like an idiot but who cares I know better now.

Back to the gig, Catalina island was the most perfect and stunning back drop for what we were shooting. We shot promo segments for ocean week and world oceans day (June 8th) going over what we as people can do to preserve and protect our ocean and environments and also what movies and programs they would be airing that week.

Did you know the ocean provides over half of the world's oxygen?!  Yeah that's one of the many fun facts I learned just from being On set that day from this amazing couple. If you want to learn more of what you can do to help visit Philippes non profit organization at (www.earthecho.org)

Some things you should know about Catalina if you plan on going, (which you absolutely should)  is.... The ferry ride over is totally free on your birthday! Free! so that saves you some moola right there also if you were to take a helicopter it is at a discounted rate just go to (islandexpress.com)

There are also a ton of fun things to do there besides look at the gorgeous landscape like zip lining, glass bottom boat rides, snorkeling,  checking out the bison and the gardens are just a few. I can't wait to go back to have more adventures of my own. Until next time!

Women supporting women

The other night I had the honor of attending the 2016 Gracie awards as a guest of my uber talented inspirational friend Jessica A. As long as I've known her she has always been busy working her butt off on different projects. Oh, did I mention she has her own show she Executive produced on Oxygen network called  "Douglas Family Gold" about Gabby Douglas's journey to the 2016 olympics. You guys should really check it out it's pretty amazing.

Honestly I had never heard of the Gracie awards until this night and as a woman I feel kind of embarrassed to admit that.

But I know I can't be the only one so for those of you that don't know what they are either... the Gracies are awards that recognize exemplary programming created by women, for women and about women in all facets of media and entertainment. The alliance for women in media "focus on and acknowledge women who are making positive change and further the discussion of what fulfilling a career in the media looks like" In other words we Rock!

We originally went to scope out the competition and see what it was all about maybe even meet some people to collaborate on future projects with but we left there feeling empowered and inspired. It was awesome seeing and being around such successful and influential people and also seeing all the new projects in the works and programming being made by such talented females. Kind of makes me feel like I have been slacking a bit.... Come on guys tone it down! No, I'm just kidding keep it up💜
